NEWS: 'Crude - The Real Price of Oil' in Movie Theaters Near You

Dispatch from SSC Intern Lila Holzman

Throughout this fall season, Joe Berlinger’s documentary “CRUDE The Real Price of Oil”will be debuting in select U.S. cities.  The film documents the legal battle concerned with cleaning up the severely contaminated Amazon Rainforest - one of the world’s most precious resources. Environmental pollution caused by decades of oil-drilling in the Ecuadorian Amazon has resulted in alarmingly high cancer rates in local indigenous populations and poses a threat to biodiversity.

This ‘David vs. Goliath’ battle plays out in the form of a $27 billion lawsuit, in which the indigenous people demand from Chevron (formerly Texaco) to clean up and restore the area.
The documentary hopes to raise awareness about the issue and provide viewers with ways to support this environmental and human rights struggle.  For more information on how you can get involved, go to the Amazon Watch campaign website.

For a limited time, “CRUDE” will be playing in New York, Los Angeles, and Irvine.  Upcoming locations include: San Francisco, New Orleans, Chicago, Austin, Houston, Boston, and Washington, D.C.  For more details on when “CRUDE” will be at a theater near you, check out: http://www.crudethemovie.com/
