NEWS: Climate Counts - A Company Scorecard

Dispatched by the SSC Team

Climate Counts is a 501(c)(3) organization that scores large companies based on how well they address climate change.  The organization intends to inform consumers, inciting purchasing and investment changes based on companies’ varying levels of action.

This year’s scorecard, released last week, updated scores for 90 companies over 12 sectors and 3000 brands.  Overall scores increased by 14% since 2009, and the average amount of points exceeded 50 (out of 100) for the first time since the scorecard was launched in 2007.

So what does this mean for your business? Well, it’s another example of demanded transparency, pointing to the need for the measurement of sustainability metrics.  To learn more about how your company can apply Climate Counts scoring principles to your measurement, check out our pre-recorded webinar with Climate Counts Executive Director, Wood Turner.  In the webinar he goes through emerging issues in CSR, the methodology and importance of the scorecard, and how to apply lessons learned to small businesses.

In addition to informing your own metrics, the Climate Counts scorecard provides another platform for you to keep tabs on your larger suppliers and customer.  Click here to view the full results.
