Employee engagement is key in the success of any green initiative. Furthermore, as we’ve discussed in previous blog entries, engaging employees in sustainability activities can actually improve company morale.
Dell is one company that has relied heavily on employee engagement in approaching their goal of being the “greenest technology company on the planet”. Dell employees are encouraged to volunteer to participate in green initiatives at work and in their communities, share ideas via an idea-generation tool called Employee Storm, carpool and telecommute.
Domestically, the company is saving over $3,000,000 and 12,000 tons of CO2 annually, thanks to an employee initiative asking for computers to be turned off at night. Internationally, waste collection and recycling campaigns continue to serve and encourage employee sustainability.
