Lorre Walker, Consultant and Project Manager
Hey everyone, I’m Lorre…the newest member of the SSC team.
I officially joined SSC in July, 2009 as a sustainability consultant and project manager, but I have been working with SSC since the spring of 2008. I’m a certified SSC Green Auditor and have conducted green audits incorporating an on-site facilities audit, client workshop, and final results presentation. I advise green teams by identifying key environmental impacts, assessing challenges and opportunities, calculating carbon footprint, and creating six-month action plans to kick-start sustainability strategy. I’m more than just a Green Auditor, however, and I’m excited to be working on a variety of SSC projects including helping to develop a county’s Green Business Certification program.
A little bit about my background…I have 12 years of experience in report/proposal creation and print production management, and in addition to working on client projects, I put my skills to work on SSC proposals on a regular basis. I have an MBA in Business Management from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas and a BA in English from Texas Tech University.
When I was working on my MBA at St. Ed’s, I took a course in corporate social responsibility (CSR) and a little light went on in my head. I had a “ding ding ding” moment (I actually heard the sounds and I had to seek treatment). But anyway, I knew that I wanted to help make organizations be better…better stewards of the environment, better to their employees and customers, more transparent…you get the idea. Since then I’ve contributed to a number of sustainability and CSR projects—including research that was used for an annual Ethics in Business Awards program, an analysis of CSR in the Czech Republic, and the development of a sustainability plan for a real estate company.
A little more about me…hmm…my background in English and proposal writing has turned me into a very meticulous, nit-picky editor. Typos, punctuation, and grammatical errors drive me nuts—particularly when I make them! I want everything to be consistent. Use spell check! I also love to outline, map a process, and create a schedule for everything. Plan the work and work the plan!
Outside of work, I am much more of a free-spirited, go-with-the-flow kind of person. I love to travel—in the last few years I have been to Costa Rica, the Czech Republic, and China. I also lived in London for a wild and crazy semester in college…I think I remember most of it.
I have a dog (my baby) and I can be found most weekends wandering the trails of Rock Creek with her. She saw her first deer recently, and almost broke my arm trying to chase them. Oh yeah…I have a cat too…she hates everyone.
I guess that’s it for me. For the boring, professional version of my bio, click here.
BONUS! Lorre's father wrote a poem about her when she was little that foreshadowed her future career path. If you would like to read it (and make her father VERY happy), click here.
