Steve Haslip is a graphic design student at the School of Visual Arts in New York. He has designed a mailing envelope that transforms into a clothes hanger, winning first place in the D&AD Student Awards 2007 category 'What else do you do?'
While I'm not sure that I would use a cardboard hanger (might it be dirty after going through the mail system?), I love that he has re-thought the possibilities for both the ever irritating mailing envelope (hard to open, usually single use, sometimes non-recyclable) and the hanger (which we could always use a few more of...). We need more innovative thinking around sustainable design.
And while it’s definitely a “green” product, it seems that people love it for the sheer simplicity. Check out the write-up on Unclutterer.
So tell us, would you use a hanger made from a mailing envelope?
