NEWS: Congrats to the 2011 GreenCare Award Winners!

The annual GreenCare Awards seek to recognize achievements made in the growing field of sustainable healthcare.  This year, more than 125 hospitals, healthcare systems, and physician practices submitted applications to prove that they are among the most environmentally responsible facilities in the country.  These organizations all are committed to more than just caring for their patients – they’re committed to protecting the planet.

Only the best of the best were recognized.  And as a sponsor of the Awards, we here at SSC want to give a well-deserved shout out to the winners.

The overall winner, who had the best aggregate score in the eight areas of assessment, is Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, Wisconsin!  The folks at Sacred Heart demonstrated impressive results in their sustainability efforts and should be looked up to as a standard for sustainable health care initiatives.

Special props go to the overall runner up, LifeBridge Health, just a short drive up I-95 in Baltimore.  LifeBridge represented the national capital region with outstanding scores in the areas of Organizational Commitment, Purchasing, and Housekeeping and Maintenance.

Congratulations are also in order for a couple other organizations helping to keep the local healthcare sustainability movement churning along – Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA and Reston Hospital Center in Reston, VA.  Both took home honorable mentions in individual award categories.  Well done!
